Bluetooth issues
Note: For Bluetooth pairing no additional software is required, it is fully handled by Windows.
Again: There is no need to install the Magic Utilities to pair your device.
All wireless Magic devices are designed by Apple to work with Apple computers via Bluetooth using specific chipsets.
While Bluetooth is a universal standard, not every Magic device works (flawless) with every Bluetooth adapter (and their Windows driver) out there.
Disconnects / Dropouts
Apparently, it can happen that Apples Magic Devices disconnect in when connected via Bluetooth.
Click your mouse or trackpad or press a key your Magic keyboard to reconnect.
Also, disable Bluetooth power savings, see below.
Avoid wireless Interference from other devices
Other wireless devices might cause connection drop-outs. These days our environment is full of wireless connections, Wifi, mobile phones, speakers, displays, ... you name it.
If you have connection dropouts, try to remove all potential wireless sources nearby your computer and your Magic device. More here https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201542.
Use the default Windows Bluetooth drivers
Do not install custom drivers for your Bluetooth adapter, try the Windows drivers first. Install custom drivers only if the Windows drivers do not work at all.
We have reports that BlueSoleil adapters work fine with the Windows drivers but not with their custom drivers.
Use a different Bluetooth adapter
In case you can't pair your device or have constant ongoing Bluetooth issues try a different Bluetooth adapter.
Here are some Bluetooth adapters which should work. Scroll down a bit to see them.
Note: Windows can use only one Bluetooth adapter at the time. Disable/remove the existing Bluetooth adapter before installing a new one.
Disable power saving mode
The Bluetooth radio goes by default into power saving mode after a while. This may affect the performance of your Magic device.
After an update or re-installation you might need to repeat these steps again.
- Open the Device Manager
- Expand the Bluetooth Radios node
- Double click on the Bluetooth radio. Note: The name is different on your computer. Examples:
"Generic Bluetooth Adapter", "Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R)", "Apple Broadcom Built-in Bluetooth" - Select the Power Management tab
- Un-check Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
Now repeat these steps for each of your Magic Bluetooth devices:
- Expand the Human Interface Devices node
- Double click on your Magic device
- Select the Power Management tab
- Un-check Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
